I think you're avoiding the point. They maybe able to work collaboratively with the folks on the other side of the aisle. There are some indications that's the case for both.

What you're ignoring is Clinton's baggage, the force of the great umbrage machine that cranks up at the sight of her face or the sound of her voice--the Clinton equivalent of BDS. That's a huge deficit to overcome.

Hillary's negatives are clearly out there in the polls, it's not just my perception. And folks who follow Washington events know how much hostility she inspires among many major players on the right.

Not to mention it will be a long, bloody general election campaign between Hillary and McCain with all the surrogate groups and talk jocks piling on every day. She will fire back, they will fire back, the anger level goes up, and regardless who emerges at the inauguration, the atmosphere will be that much more poisoned.

If you want to believe otherwise, fine, JMHO. My view is based on being more or less plugged into the Washington world the last 20 years.
