I wasn't countering your position that one can reduce expenditures in retirement, because most big ticket items have been paid for earlier in life. Just countering the Soc Sec example because it doesn't support your overall position.

I am also retired and agree with your economics analysis. However, our education was paid for by other old people and now it our turn to pay for the children's education. Pay those school taxes and stop bitching about them and start bitching about all the other worthless taxes we pay.
