I would prefer to see tort and pharmaceutical reforms tried first. One reason Hillary scares me is her determination to make it all mandatory. Our insurance is a mess; I was fighting with them all day yesterday.

Just an aside, but my mominlaw talked with the VA last week to see what her benefits would be following her husband's death. She learned that she is eligible (and apparently would have been all these years but never knew it) for full medical coverage, including Rx and longterm care. This would have been true for dependents also.
She was horrified. She sees no reason she deserves this. However, since it's offered, why not take it? If this is really the policy, then we are going to have an enormous pricetag on the injured soldiers from Iraq and their dependents for many years.
