You remember all those people in the offices around yours when you worked for Uncle Sam? They get paid pretty well, so I'm in favor of having some of them keep up with current events in their area of responsibility and bring potential problems to the attention of policymakers, who will hopefully not be so doctrinaire as to say, nah, the housing bubble won't pop, those subprime mortgages will all be refinanced at higher home values. We are heading to one of our one thing means everything debates which go nowhere. A reasonable standard of attention and prudence would suit me.
