Don't worry, you're far from the only person who talks authoritatively about Israel while being oblivious to basic historical facts.

This was THE REASON that Israel nurtured Hamas in its younger days! The PLO's recognition of Israel, which they began offering in 1976, was starting to get some international awareness in the early 1980s. Israelis strategists referred to this as a "peace offensive" (Israel's political culture is rather sick) and looked desperately for ways to undermine Arafat. Supporting his radical Islamic enemies was a no-brainer for these twisted people.

I understand the sympathy folks feel for the Pals. I understand they think its becoming worse not better for pals and a form of apartheid exists in the region. I understand it all. But what i dont get is why these folks twist the history of the 70s and 80s and 90s to justify their concerns. Their concerns stand on their own merits. But the causes of the misery of pals lays 75% at their doorstep and that of the arab states who stood in the way of any deal offered starting in 47 with partition. If the arabs had accepted the partition, you could not create a map small enought to find what was israel then. Pal and arab solution---keep fighting until you lose it all. They all sound like folks who should be going to Gamblers Anonymous.
