I know the product you are talking about and also for sure understand where it is useful and where not. The approach has been tried a few times in semiconductor history but always with limited success. The first guys to kick off a company based on this approach was Interdesign (Los Gatos '76, Hans Kamizen) and interestingly enough that was even before the first digital semi custom (later: Gate Arrays and finally ASICs) kicked in. Those were still metal mask programmable, fuse and other connect technologies kicked in later. Taro
