Couldn't this be said about any close race for a nomination? I've never heard these accusations made in another Presidential nomination race. Why against Hillary?

Not when the runner up has virtually no mathematical chance of winning, but still harbors hopes of squeaking out a win if the leader can be torn down enough. And it's all about tearing down with scorn and mockery and grabbing every opening to blow stuff up into a new flap. Nothing to do with issues. They don't differ much on the issues.

I believe similar accusations were leveled against Kennedy in 1980. It is not unique to Hillary, just as most of the things that upset you aren't unique now and never were.

a total presumption of ugliness about her character followed by glee in pointing it out.

Which is exactly Hillary's demeanor as she runs down Obama's experience, elitism, patriotism, etc. The fact that she whines when criticized but doesn't hesitate to be "tough" herself (which she is sooooooooooo proud of and big on) is the height of hypocrisy.

Hillary radiates an attitude of, "If you aren't me, you suck!" Many people find that offensive. We have been commanded to like and adore her and vote for her without using our own judgment.

She is not the poor little innocent victim you paint her to be, IMHO. But I doubt anything short of nuclear weapons would dislodge you from that view so there is no point to you and I debating it. As I noted to Steve, any critical comment I make is just further proof of the evil conspiracy that surrounds and envelopes the poor woman.

>>Of course, this all assumes that Hillary Clinton decides not to be completely suicidal and take down the party in a huge ball of flames. But I don't think she will. Even the Clintons have to bow to reality eventually.

This was in John's post from Kevin Drum. The presumption that she would take the party down rather than give up her ambitions. <<

Kate -

What I see Kevin saying there is that Hillary will NOT take the party down.

This, despite the fact that her extremely negative campaign against Obama, conducted in the face of increasingly long odds that she can prevail, is unquestionably hurting the party right now.

Actually, Kate, Drum thinks she wouldn't go that far.
