I got that, but it seems to me, if he had watched FNC or even CNN he could have just called the State Dept and said, "Hey, I heard on the news you're thinking this is all a bad idea. Any truth to it?"

I don't know, it just seems like he could have figured it out -- I know around our household we were discussing, well in advance of the trip, the fact that an ex-president ought not meddle in the affairs of government without a go-ahead from the State dept.

In fact, I think he could have read this thread before the trip and gotten the message.
