Anyway, the reason such a complete conversion has never seen the light of day in Washington is that too many pols like the system the way it is This is a seriously ugly system. It's hard for me to imagine that anyone actually likes it as it is. The essential problem is that it's established and, to change it, you'd have to come up with something clearly and conspicuously better. I'd long since given up on that. These recent proposals for participants to set aside a part of their tax input are manipulative, at best. But I would be interested in looking at any legitimate alternative. It's been a long time since I looked at SS and it will take me a while to get my aging brain to shift gears back into that. I will review your post carefully when I get some time. Today is busy for me. And I'd appreciate any references you might come across.
