Fascinating. The author of that story looked at the alternatives sources for electrical power, and concluded that only coal could fit the bill.

However, he didn't even consider wind, solar thermal, or solar voltaic. I wonder is he is aware there are already large multimegawatt solar thermal power plants operating in Nevada? I wonder if he is aware that they are not especially expensive nor time-consuming to construct, and that they generate power quite economically?
