We have a spruce beetle in Alaska that has devasted forests (may be the same beetle?). The largest impact has been on the Kenai I think. They seem to be moving north with the warmer weather.

I used to know the exact reasons for the increase in infestation, but cannot remember them now. I think their infestation had to do with not having cold enough winters to keep them in check?
