Merlinson re U of O: that is a pretty coincidental post for me to read and makes me smile.

My daughter just graduated from the U of O in Eugene with a degree in Environmental Science. And is now working at a plant making electric cars.

My son in law teaches physcis and climatology at one of the universities in Portland. But he is mainly a research scientist with a PHD in atmospheric chemistry from UC Irvine and primarily studies global warming.

He was studying global warming under a NOAA grant at the U of Washington until bush , who does not believe in global warming, got rid of the grants. His area of investigation is gas isotopes.

Both of my children are very environmentally conscious. I always like to tell the story of when I visit them, if we do not take a bag to the store, they both make me carry out the food in our arms-lol. They will not let me use a plastic bag-lol.

I noticed another atmospheric chemist from UC Irvine is leading an investigation into the "artic haze" which covers the artic and is felt to be responsible for the abnormally high melting of the arctic ice cap.

I think a lot of the pollution is coming from asia and the arctic acts as sort of a catchment sink. The arctic ice cap is less then 10 feet thick, so it could melt pertty easily and as you probably know last year the arctic ice cap shrunk much more than anyone expected. It was a huge wake up call.

Cheers
