It's up on everyone's list except Bush's and unfortunately he has veto power, so he's held our entire country hostage for almost 8 years. Things will change very rapidly once he's gone. Even McCain will make energy independence a higher priority. Bush is the worst President in modern history, maybe ever in this country.

National security means having access to every drop of oil we need.

Nothing new and in no way exclusive to the USA.

De facto denying Japan access to oil (in their opinion) left them no choice but attacking the US.
