Actually, Obama worked for the U of C for quite a while. It wasn't just a passing fancy. He was a very popular figure among students.

Anyway, as far as McCain, the facts are plain that he has held public positions his whole life either with the Navy or in public office. I actually think that people who serve their country their whole life are heroes of a sort. They give up fat private sector paychecks and in the case of the armed services, they put their life on the line. If someone is talented enough to get elected to the US Senate, then they are most probably talented enough to have been a high ranking private executive and could have made millions in the private sector. So I find that very honorable that they would forgo the benefits of being a private citizen. So Obama and McCain should be lauded for their service.

The only legitimate claim regarding both of their service is that one has served longer. But that in and of itself isn't a very good argument for why someone should be President.
