I never could imagine that of all places, America would be debating food prices. The abundance of food was a cultural shock for me when I immigrated some 30 years ago.

Now, if we are troubled by rising food prices, can you imagine the impact of hunger in those countries where the word "dieting" does not exist in their dictionary and where they only know about food but do not know that there is also dog food, cat food etc.

Ii is very likely that Obama having lived in Indonesia knows very well that very poor people use food morsels to trap rats since their meat is more substantial than the morsel of food used to trap them. That is how I have seen people solve their problems of hunger in very very poor regions of Asian countries.

I don't mean to be sensational but just wanted to share my personal experiences during my social service stints in those parts. HOw true that John Kenneth Galbraith would say "When American talk about hunger, they do not know what they are talking about."
