I'm regretting that Powell didn't run. I remember he and Bush were the two most popular potential candidates in the late '90's. Powell had enough stature to have taken the nomination away from Bush.

Powell would have been a moderate Republican President not a conservative. As such he wouldn't have satisfied the conservative base on a lot of things, but thats the case with Bush too. Powell would certainly have been as good as Bush on most issues and probably better on some.
