I went to a "Christian" church for a few years and the congregation was pressured to tithe. I saw poor people tithe before they paid their rent. The Pastor gave sermons about tithing with an open heart. In other words, if you were reserved about donating a 10th then you would be in deep kimchee with the Lord. Apparently there are Biblical references to it but I can't quote you those phrases.

Yes, I place "Christian" purposely in parentheses for many reasons and one reason is that I don't believe their many of their values are Christlike.

But that is a topic for another thread!

As you know, I have sung in a lot of churches of different mainline denominations over many years, and not once did I hear any suggestion that tithing was mandatory.

It may be more common in the fundamental, evangelical churches, the literal Biblebased ones.

It's also between an individual and God. Suggesting that Obama's failure to tithe says anything at all about him is really reaching.
