WMcM -

I know. Pretty wild stuff, isn't it. Imagine getting that exercised over a piece of music.

I once saw, online, a part of a video of a recreation of that scene at the premier of the ballet. I only saw it once, and was never able to find it again. I'm guessing it must have been taken from some film. I wish I could find it. I'd like to watch the whole thing.

The first time I heard the Rite (at 13) I didn't care for it at all.

Neither did the audience at its premiere.

Alex Ross' book, The Rest is Noise: Listening to the Twentieth Century, on modern music is just wonderful about all this stuff. I recommend it. amazon.com

My intro to Rite was in Disney's Fantasia. I think I was about 8. I hated it. I hated the dinosaurs dying and the earth drying up. I think that colored my opinion of it for the rest of my life. In fact, it still conjures up unpleasant images when I hear it.
