Patricia -

OK, I looked it up. The Obama's charitable contributions for 2007 were $240,370, on a total income of $4,139,965. It works out that they gave approximately 6% to charities.

Given that much of the income was in royalties from book sales, which increased dramatically as the year went on, they may not have known what the total income was going to be, and thus could not gauge their "tithe" correctly.

Of course, I realize that I am being charitable in viewing it that way.

Still, that's ten times more than what you were told.
