I was describing how he caught the fancy of voters not who he is as a person.

You have reduced the judgment and motivations of 15 million people to an airy cliche that fits your particular prejudice in the election. In addition to insulting millions of other adults, it's poor analysis with little chance of holding up to scrutiny.

It's basically just another, "All of those people are like this...." construction.
