We have bombed the hell out of iraq and afganistan.

Yup. And then the right wonders why America and Israel are so hated. When you screw people over, they tend to get angry and hostile. Its a very human reaction.

When you are at war you bomb the hell out of your opponent.

Yup. That's a very rightie way of looking at it.......and it gets us very little. How long do you keep doing it with little profit before you all figure out it ain't working?

All three wars need rethinking, i think, in how to fight them and the level of violence. But nothing done in lebanon varies much from the norms of war. And the US supported israeli objectives, contrary to what you implied.

I am well aware of the US support of Israel's bombing of Lebanon......and forever will hate the principals who allowed it to happen....specifically Bush, Cheney and Rice. I suspect when they meet their maker he will be royally pissed.

Of course the israelis have as much problems with hizbo as the US has with the mahdi army so clear cut victories are impossible to attain.

So then what was the point of bombing an entire country killing innocent people? Hezbollah was formed in response to Israel's first invasion of Lebanon.....flash forward 25 years and you see what Israel's aggression has cost her. Israel was wrong from the moment it was formed and they and us have paid for that mistake through the nose for over 50 years and I am one American who is tired of the whole mess.

We have bombed the hell out of iraq and afganistan.

This is really an unfair statement. Yes, we are at war and we have used bombs. But we have also taken great pains to minimize collateral damage and injury to civilians. And we have done so with great success.

No bombing in history has been as surgical as the US bombing in these areas and no military in history has used the degree of effort as our military to limit civilian casualties. Or, for that matter, to limit damage to civilian structures.
