clearly the Zionists were a small minority in 1914: Is this supposed to be a shocking news flash? WTF does that have to do with anything? It doesn't change the indisputable fact that the land was an absolute wasteland before the Zionist movement which is what you took issue with. Clearly, had not the Jews moved into Palestine the entire region would have remained in third-world status up until this very day. There is NOTHING to suggest the Palestinians might have developed this land into anything during the last century.

The major conclusion is "The nature of the data do not permit precise conclusions about the Arab population of Palestine in Ottoman and British times" mideastweb.org israelipalestinianprocon.org It is not clear from the footnotes below who produced the revised population estimates and when they were produced. The Anglo-American survey gave lower values that were from 1944 in a different volume. One might think we could get an idea of the basis of the estimate for Arab population by comparing the projected figures given here, with the ones summarized given in the Anglo American Survey as the 1945 Vilstat mideastweb.org
