I lean towards your view but I'm trying to keep an open mind. Have you seen Ambrose Evans-Pritchard's latest in the UK Telegraph (23 Apr 2008)? See: Message 24535826

Think about this: There are so many dollars in the vaults of our creditors that it actually makes sense for them to support it. No great insight there, but the rest of the story may be their calculation that the price of supporting the dollar is net/net worth it when the ultimate economic effects are measured, i.e., the cost of keeping their export machines humming and ours at bay by keeping dollar 'strong' is a small cost in the overall picture, a cost of doing business.

Gotta explain the dollar's strength somehow. vbg.
