I don't think that is true.

Do you think South Korea wants to see us out of there? In fact, tell me which of the following WANTS our bases out of their countries:

Germany
Italy
Japan
Netherlands
Panama
Portugal
Spain
Turkey
UK

Can you name a few that would like for us to leave?

Also, I would point out that the 800 figure is way, way overblown. While we do have more bases than any other military, most of what you're referring to as "bases" really would be more aptly classified as "outposts". There are certainly far more actual "bases" inside the US than outside.

If one wants to think in terms of substantial military bases, the countries listed above are the big ones, plus a few in the Mideast.

For example, some would consider Henderson Field as a "military base", but it really does not involve a substantial US presence. The fact is that the number of US bases abroad that involve a substantial presence is much smaller, probably in the range of a hundred or so (my estimate, and just eyeballing it).
