Other than South Korea, why should be be in any of those countries?

Because they are essential to our national defense.

It would be insane for us to be without bases in any one of the countries I listed. While there are certainly some that we likely do without, bases in other countries are there for our strategic advantage, for the most part. SK is an exception, it is there for THEIR strategic protection.

OTOH, most of these bases serve the dual purpose of giving us positions that can aid in defending the host countries. It is absolutely a win-win in almost every situation.

But I can certainly understand why a youthful, inexperienced liberal would ask such a question.
