If they weren't, they'd be in jail. <g>

Maybe they're just being paranoid, thinking the govt want to throw them in jail for smoking flower buds.

I didn't keep up with those people closely enough to know if they continued to smoke or not. I stopped long ago so I could get a government clearance; once I left government drugs held no interest for me so I didn't bother.

This is one of those causation/correlation issues. It is very possible that people you know who went downhill also smoked and went on to other drugs. Whether drugs were a cause or just a side effect would take a much more complex analysis.

It's like saying that credit cards drive people into bankruptcy when their bad spending habits could just lead them to abuse their credit cards. Most people with credit cards don't go bankrupt but most bankruptcy filings involve high credit card debt.
