This may, or may not help, but I recall the breeder telling me this when we brought home a tiny German Shepherd pup from a large litter. In those days there were no "crates" like they have today. The puppy's new home was an empty washing machine box in the kitchen. The breeder told us to go buy a cheap, wind up alarm clock and bury it under his blankets. The tick-tock, tick-tock apparently reminds the puppy of his siblings heart beat and he doesn't think he's so alone. Worked for us. Of course, the pup was only in the box at bed time. The rest of the time he was always with one or more of us.
