Most people don't like the idea of people dying in the streets (or in their hovels) without health care- which is why society picks up health care costs. If you're ok with people dying because they are poor, well, you've got an interesting value system. I am glad we spend money on health care- and once you make a decision to do that, it makes economic sense to try to keep people healthy. Personally I'd rather live in that kind of society, but all kinds of people have all kinds of preferences. Yours are not mine.
