It's amazing how quickly moods can change. Six months ago when we left America everyone thought everything was fine - sure house prices were going down in some parts of the country but that was "contained". Last time I moved to Australia the opposite happened - from everyone worrying about whether another recession was coming, the economy went into the late 1990s boom.
