Why don't other countries have to protect their people in the same way? Most other countries seem pretty safe. Yeah, Europe was plenty safe before we saved them in WWII. Of course, ALL Americans realized at that time that protecting Europe was in our interests -- that protecting them was tantamount to protecting ourselves. And they were right -- had we not entered the war and defeated both Germany and Japan, there is little doubt that freedom as YOU and I know it wouldn't exist today. Because if we didn't do it, nobody else could. It is unfortunate today that Americans don't comprehend the critical nature of the war we're engaged in. But it was predictable -- on day one, I made the point on this thread that the biggest battle would be the one of keeping the Left focused on the work that had to be done for the years it would take. And that has been proven accurate. We've seen remarks in this forum claiming that America's homeland wasn't threatened in WWII -- an utterly ignorant commentary on the war and one which reflects a lack of even the most basic knowledge of the subject. We've seen Cindy Sheehan, who is an ignorant liberal, trying to stir up an anti-war movement. We've seen the liberal leadership in Congress, foolishly, standing up and declaring that "we have lost" the war, while we were still in the midst of fighting it. And of course, we have Obama, telegraphing to our enemy, "Just wait until the elections are over -- if I win, we'll surrender". This ignorance of our history -- even amongst some people who should know better -- is a huge threat for us. Because protecting others is part of protecting ourselves.
