This is the mistake they've made this year -- Obama is so liberal he stands zero chance of getting elected in the General. While Hillary is practically as liberal as Obama, she isn't perceived that way and would have had a much better chance at getting elected. Normally, I'd agree with you, but I think you might have missed the watershed change in public sentiment over the last several years. "Liberal" is a label that has been used by the Republicans to vilify the left-most leaning politicians. However, more than 50% of Americans are really sick of Bush and as a result the whole Republican party has been tainted. Proof of this is pretty easy to find. Both the House and Senate are now majority Democrat and that majority will increase in November. So Republicans need to get used to the idea that just calling someone "liberal" isn't going to ensure their defeat anymore. They are going to need a truly superior candidate to beat the Dems this year, and sorry, McCain isn't it. I like Romney better, personally, and think Ron Paul is the smartest of the bunch, but he's unelectable. You can even see why McCain was chosen, though. It's because a large part of the Republican base moved left, closer to center, and McCain successfully branded himself as a center candidate, while Romney branded himself the Reagan look-alike, which pushed him further right. That didn't play well with Republicans looking to get away from Bush's far right policies. So McCain was nominated. Neither Obama nor Hillary has a sufficient track record to overcome McCain's, and thus, neither stands a snowball's chance against McCain. Your assumption here doesn't jive with the facts. Length of track record has not been a good predictor of winning the Presidential race in the past. I don't expect that will play in McCain's favor this time either. However, the economy has been in recession in the year prior to a Presidential election 7 times since the Civil war. Every one of those times, the Party not in power at the time was swept into power. That track record points to a Dem win. Also, 22 out of the last 23 Presidents have been the tallest candidate. That points to an Obama win. ;) findarticles.com
