OK, now how about tying that back into the notion that the Middle East hates us because we're "interfering."

Maybe they really do hate us for who we are and what we represent, not just for what we do. Only question after that is whether we should care.

In fact, there is a new form of isolationism in reverse. It is the rest of the world acting in many ways to isolate the US by the simple political means of walking away from it and making their own future agreements with each other without even inviting the US as observers. Representatives from 60 - I repeat SIXTY - nations recently met in Lima Peru. The US was not there!

Reminds me of Napoleon's second dictum: "Never interrupt your opponent in the middle of executing a mistake. You might cause him to change his mind."
