Each time these ships go on a cruise and visit foreign ports, they are allowed to pick up a lot of personal items to bring back home. My son told of people buying all kinds of electrical equipment like stereos, TV sets, even furniture. All of it gets stored somewhere on the boat. Everyone knows, if necessary for the safety of ship and crew in a combat situation, all of that stuff can be jettisoned in a blink.

An aside here. Early after graduating from his flight training as a crew member on an anti-submarine S3 aircraft, son calls home and says I can catch a flight to Denver for the weekend. We got instructions to pick him up at the National Guard base on the east side of town. The aircraft landed and the 4 man crew got off long enough to make a pit stop. Keith and another guy stayed and the 2 pilots immediately left.

When I asked Keith about this he said those two guys are on their way to Boston for 100 pounds of live lobster for a big feed we're having next week in San Diego. Keeping our nation free from aggression, all the while! You gotta love America and its opportunities!!!
