There's nothing on earth like the rumble of a B-17 engine.

Take that ride, Ken. My wife and I took one in Juneau on the Nine-O-Nine. It cost $700 and was worth every penny. Our flight was unforgettable. We flew late in the day, about 9 pm, when the sun was low in the horizon.

I can recall almost every second of that ride. Two favorites: 1) looking out over the tail from the radio shack at the sunset.

2) Flying towards the Mendenhall Glacier. I was behind the co-pilot. Both pilots were taking pictures. I kept thinking: It's OK to turn around now. Anytime. Now, please. On the way back down the valley I could look out and see my house.

Another highlight was I was in the Bombardier compartment when we flew over the Federal Building where I worked. Great view, and the temptation to say "Bombs away!" was irresistible.

If I had the $5000, I would join the Collings Foundation to keep those planes flying.
