You say Obama "went with the black american narrative"? When and how did he do that?

He endorsed the black american narrative by being a member of Rev. Wright so called church for the past 20 years.

It was his own choice. In his now famous speech on racism in American he could have disowned Rev. Wright but instead he said that he could no more disown Rev. Wright than ...
However in the same speech he managed to throw his own grandmother under the bus by referring to her as a "typical white woman"

The white american narrative is that while in the past there was serious racism, we now live in a society that is for the most part is not racist anymore. That while everyone in this country may not be starting from the same place in life there are opportunities for all citizens regardless of race and that the most people believe that we should (and do) treat people equally regardless of skin color.

This doesn't appear to be the message preached by Rev. Wright.

I think that you can make a case that he did that in his big race speech. He had some of each in there but it wasn't balanced.
