I will be gleeful and amazed if the fall campaign is actually waged on policy proposals and real issues. From the perspective of today, I don't see much hope. The turd throwing will be raised to major league pitching speeds, and the game will begin yet again. I was overseas all of 2000 and most of the spring and fall campaigns in 2004; I realized today how unplugged I was from the 24/7 waste water treatment festival that our "political scene" becomes in election years. No wonder we end up with failed minority presidents who can hardly pass the time of day in Congress, much less needed reforms. It's exactly what we all get most excited about and clamor for more and more. So the campaign gurus get into the cow patty business and make millions. While the electorate is left to eat s**t and live with the results.
