Exactly. For a guy who is supposed to have profound understanding of the topic of the races in America, no matter how good that speech was in many regards, it missed on this one.

And Wright seems for some reason to be bound and determined to make it bite him (Obama) in the ass. With friends like that...

But I still fundamentally disagree with the notion that a candidate has to choose either a black narrative or a white one, even if we postulate that such things exist.

I fell asleep yesterday afternoon with fifty posts remaining so I've probably missed a lot of discussion. Until I catch up, I'll just say this. They exist, perhaps not so much as some may think, but they exist. You have only to be in a conference room watching the OJ verdict with a racially mixed group to know for certain that they exist.

That goal is laudable but it will take more than one speech. Chances are if he is sincere he will have to spend a life time.

This notion of immediate gratification that he can change the course of history in one or two years time is delusional.
