The purpose of the Interstate Highway systems was more so a Bomber could land anywhere in the country if necessary. That was part of it, and probably more of an excuse to build the Interstate system, a way to sell it as a legitimate function of the federal government, national security. But it was the auto, trucking and oil industries that really benefitted from the interstate highway system, and were likely behind the bribery that brought it about in Congress. Growth in these industries has been driven by the federally designed, built and managed Interstate highway system. Sounds an awful lot like socialism, probably because that's what it is.
