The fact is that the President of the United States, George W. Bush, has interpreted the law to grant him powers to hold American citizens without due process and without trial violation of the U.S. Constitution. Due process and the right to a trial is the core of the American justice system, and we no longer are guaranteed that right by our government. It's still in the Constitution, but the current regime of militarists and nationalists have decided that the rights of the state superceed the rights of the individual, like any authoritarian form of government. I have read more about this on right wing Libertarian websites than liberal sites, so the Republicans better watch out from the right.
