Glenn -

I think you are probably correct that Obama, being so used to the "noise" of the more extreme opinions within the black community on the South Side, didn't really consider how they might play on a larger stage. But he's learning, isn't he?

If Obama were to defer to such people in matters of policy, or if he were to be too much influenced by their opinions, I would see it as a problem. I believe he has shown that he can think for himself, and that he is also unwilling to simply throw aside people who have been a part of his life. At least, I see that as being the case with Wright.

To me, therefore, it isn't a bad trait.
