I don't know the Constitution? What kind of statement is that? I have known the Constitution since I was in grade school. The Consitution outlines the powers of government and its structure, and protects the rights of individual members of our society from the power of government. I have read the Constitution and the Bill of Rights contained within, and clearly the President and nobody in government has been granted any power by the Constitution to suspend the bill of rights, or the right to due process or a speedy trial. Bush has granted himself this power.

My point is that there are a lot of Americans who are not at all happy that the President of the United States has reserved the right to lable any American citizen an "enemy combatant", and just like that take away their rights to due process granted under the U.S. Constitution. It's not just liberal Americans who are upset about this latest authoritarian development under GW Bush. The right-leaning Libertarains are also terribly upset, and for good reason, our government's powers are not limited by the Consitution like they were in previous decades. George Bush can now lable any American citizen an "enemy combatant" and strip them of their Constitutional rights. Your pompous and dismissive attitude toward this power grab is exactly why ivory tower Republcians like yourself are in for a rude awakening this fall. The reason why the Democrats have been successful in the Western U.S. this decade is because Libertarians are fed up with the Republican slid towards authoritarian nationalism, and are not voting Republican in large numbers anymore. This trend will only continue until our rights are restored as outlined in the U.S. Constitution.
