I understand what you're getting at. What I don't see is how Obama is supposed to stop Rev. Wright from speaking. The man has his First Amendment rights. He is allowed to attack the Presidency all he wants.

The situation with Bob Cunningham was quite different. In fact, McCain was not able to shut him up. He repudiated Cunningham's remarks, just as Obama has repudiated Wright's, and Cunningham then went around and spouted off on a bunch of talk shows. The difference is that nobody really cared about Cunningham, who hadn't offended half of the country, and who couldn't be said to be some kind of "mentor" to McCain.
