The problem as I see it is that much of what Rev Wright's message, and what he stands for, has been mischaracterized.

I think there is truth in that, Mary, but Wright's appearance yesterday morning reinforced many of the negatives and failed to provide strong support for the positives. And, unfortunately, it will be that appearance rather than the Moyers appearance that will be the marker. Not surprising but there it is.

The problem is complicated. For Obama to distance himself from the Rev Wright, he would have to disown much of who Obama has become.

As you know, that is both true and not true. Obama is quite different from Wright; different experiences, different views. A reasonable understanding of that relationship would, at least prior to Monday morning, see them as attached and separate.

MSM in many ways is unfair. When it is unfair to your advantage and you don't complain, it becomes hard to complain when it goes against you.

Again, I don't disagree with the formulation in that first sentence. But Monday morning was not MSM, save that it was broadcast. However, I haven't seen much of the followup to the speech, since I was quite busy later in the day and into the evening. Well, I did watch the David Gregory show Monday evening. I thought it was reasonably well done. But the panelists were decent.
