Rambi, If I could change one thing and one thing only it would be improving the life and opportunity structure of kids. If we could change that the other problems would melt away as society would be more productive and at peace with itself. A truly educated electorate would prevent much of the bad policy we have today. That said I do not know how to change it. At risk of the wrath of the board I see solutions that are the antithesis of what the left has driven us to. Things I think of as solutions are vouchers to break the monopoly of power of the teachers unions. I see stiff discipline to separate the trouble makers from those who really do want to learn. I see merit pay for good teachers. I see a public who cries out against rap artists and not just Don Imus. I see leaders who get rich dividing us relegated to the pages of history, We have a new grand daughter - our first. I watch the love showered daily on this child and realize that other babies are not as fortunate. We can see clear priorities in our society and yet we are all trapped by special interest politics. The end result will be a society with a permanent under class. How we deal with this situation will ultimately determine our fate.
