Actually,

Bush's plan B is to make tax cuts for the wealthy permanent and get rid of any estate tax. That should help.

I just heard Jimmy Carter talking with Diane Rehm this A.M. while riding along in my someday-to-be-a-planter new Subaru Impreza (leased!). He is a smart guy, hates Bush and knows he's a dolt but it wasn't clear he totally gets peak oil. He thought that Bush could have mandated better car mileage; not sure if he sees a future sans cars. One interesting thing he said in response to a trucker asking for fuel help is that, worse, as a farmer, he paid $250. for a ton of fertilizer last year, over $1000. for a ton last week. Sure to show up in food prices next year.

Is the real beginning of the Long Emergency? Stay tuned, as inquiring minds want to know.
