'hooligan (smelt)' - lol, we say oolikans, though it's likely alright to stick an haich in as long as you don't pronounce it ... think formal spelling is eulichans [?] ... used to know local indian name for them, forgot, years since i had any, should check them out, the run here is likely just over ... several friends have status cards, one does a lot of smoking, working right now on getting a real english kipper recipe down pat, pretty good so far ... finest smoked salmon ever, and a venison product much like bacon, very good People should eat from closer to home, it's stupid to ship food all over ... NYT has a piece on that, how norwegian cod gets shipped to China for filleting and packaging, then shipped back to Norway ... cheaper maybe, but one of those things that can't last
