The US has done this largely to itself (ourselves). It may have been inevitable but I don't think that is true. The US, after 30 years of right wing stupidity, has lost its appeal as the world leader. People are no longer in awe of the military superpower that is stuck in a small, third world country or of the financial power that is in one financial crisis after another. Why would they be? We can't even get a working health care system for goodness sakes. We keep getting these lunatic right wingers into office and then wonder why we keep falling behind.
