I would have put more passion into it also.

I am married to a guy with that same kind of personality. You can't tell when he's really pissed, and he handles everything calmly, smoothly, and carefully. People can't read the drive and passion that IS there, and frequently underestimate him.
So I LIKE Obama's demeanor.
I think he may have accomplished the rising above.
Of course, we will hear otherwise from those who don't want to give him that.
