I have an ultra-liberal neighbor from California that really can make me angry sometimes. Does that mean I am an ultr-liberal? I think our naive attempts to paint a candidate with the tarnish of the people they know, without using critical analysis to see if the shoe fits, simply deprives us of the best candidates. I've seen it done on the Republican side as well, which is how we got Bush Jr. I have come into contact with thieves, drug dealers, and I must admit, that I've known a couple of cold-blooded murderers in my years. We are not, of course, talking about the same thing as the Obama/Wright relationship. Obama didn't merely "come in contact" with Wright. He ascribed to Wright's beliefs, by virtue of attending his church for 20 years. By allowing Wright to indoctrinate his children -- this is, without a doubt, illustrative of the most solid form of commitment to Wright's ideology. Wright has been spewing racism and hate speech for years. Obama could have, as Oprah did, walked out of that congregation at any point, saying, "I no longer identify with the pastor". But no, Obama didn't do that. Let's not forget that Obama's wife has also expressed (in milder form) some anti-American beliefs -- if you'll remember, she has NEVER been proud to be an American -- this alone, IMO, ought to disqualify her as First Lady (although I can understand some might not attach that significance to her remarks). You are definitely not giving appropriate consideration to this relationship. That is your prerogative, of course, but it suggests you aren't quite as "open-minded" as you have claimed. Seems to me you are pretty committed to the extremism Obamas possess.
