I know the function of the Supreme Court. It presides over constitutional issues.

When I asked why should these two Justices care, I meant in the context of your allegation that they found a reason to side with New Jersey because they were born there. You are confusing things.

Again, why would those two particular justices rule in favor of New Jersey because they were born there? They don't have a dog in the fight. Why would they care on a personal level?

That is why they care, because the federal government is the arbitrator in state disputes. In fact, it is a much more relevant role for the U.S. Supreme Court than hearing a case about some obscure social issue, as they often do.
